Worth Something

Even at its most minimal, the act of having an idea and wanting to see it exist is worth something.

I once stayed up all night drawing a comic based on a story that the little nephew of a friend excitedly shared with me. They wanted it turned into a comic.

It made me super happy to draw that for them, to bring their idea to life. Without them, I would have had no reason to make it. Their idea would not have materialized, because no idea would have existed.

Anyway, creativity exists on a spectrum, and even at its most minimal, the act of having an idea and wanting to see it exist is worth something. This moment with Gen AI is unique because it lets people at every point on that spectrum produce something.

Not everyone wants to be an artist, or an app developer, or an author. But everyone right now can bring an idea to life. And maybe, they’ll smile and be happy, and call it a day. Or it may spark further exploration into developing a new skill.

And I think that’s worth something. It makes me feel hope at a time where feeling hope is much needed.
